Bridge Collapse in Maharashtra Kills Four
A bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed, claiming four lives, identified as Chandrakant Salve, Rohit Mane, Vihaan Mane, and one other. Fifty-one people were injured and admitted to hospitals, according to district officials. Rescue operations are ongoing.
Severe Weather Claims 25 Lives
Heavy rains, lightning, and thunderstorms killed at least 25 people across Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh. Most deaths were due to lightning strikes. Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Sindhudurg districts were hardest hit, with Ratnagiri recording 88.1 mm of rainfall.
COVID-19 Cases Surge
India reported 269 new COVID-19 cases, pushing active infections to 7,400. Nine deaths were recorded, raising the national toll to 87. Karnataka saw the highest daily spike with 132 cases, followed by Gujarat and Kerala. Most cases remain mild, officials say.
