Amit Shah’s Speech in Madurai ‘Abominable, Divisive and Misleading’: DMK Leader A. Raja
Madurai, India — June 9, 2025
Senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and Member of Parliament A. Raja on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his recent speech in Madurai, describing it as “abominable, divisive, and misleading.”
Raja condemned Shah’s remarks, asserting that they were aimed at stoking communal sentiments and polarizing voters ahead of the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu. “Amit Shah’s address is not only factually incorrect but also deliberately inflammatory. It is unbecoming of a Union Minister to make statements that disturb the social harmony of Tamil Nadu,” Raja said in a strongly worded statement.
The DMK leader alleged that Shah attempted to portray Tamil Nadu as a state hostile to Hindu values, a claim Raja vehemently rejected. “Tamil Nadu has a proud legacy of social justice, secularism, and inclusive governance. Such attempts to impose a communal narrative on our state will be firmly resisted,” he added.
Raja also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to rewrite history and manipulate public opinion through false narratives. “This is not just a political speech—it is a calculated move to deepen religious divides and distract from real issues like unemployment, inflation, and governance failures,” he stated.
The DMK, currently the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, has consistently opposed the BJP’s ideology. Raja’s latest statement adds fuel to the growing tensions between the two parties as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2026 state assembly elections.
As of press time, neither Amit Shah nor the BJP has officially responded to Raja’s criticism.
