Sansad Ratna Awards 2026 Cross Historic Milestone of 150 Honours, Celebrating Parliamentary Excellence
New Delhi: The prestigious Sansad Ratna Awards 2026 have marked a historic achievement by crossing the milestone of 150 honours since their inception in 2009, reaffirming their reputation as one of India’s most respected recognitions for parliamentary performance.
Speaking in Delhi, Chairperson of the Sansad Ratna Award Committee, Priyadharshni Rahul, highlighted that the awards are an initiative of the Chennai-based NGO, Prime Point Foundation, led by Mr. Srinivasan. The foundation, which has been functioning for over 25 years, annually analyses data from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to evaluate the performance and contribution of Members of Parliament and Parliamentary Standing Committees.
This year marks the 16th edition of the awards. A total of 10 Members of Parliament from the Lok Sabha, 2 Members from the Rajya Sabha, and 4 Parliamentary Standing Committees are being honoured for their outstanding legislative performance, participation, debates, and public service contributions.
Priyadharshni Rahul noted that the awards were launched in 2009 with the blessings of former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, whose vision for accountable and people-centric governance continues to inspire the initiative.
Among the notable awardees this year are:
Two former Chief Ministers from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh
A former Deputy Chief Minister from Gujarat
Two women Members of Parliament from Maharashtra
The 2026 edition has also gained special attention for its significant representation of women parliamentarians, underlining the growing role of women in India’s democratic and legislative landscape.
The Sansad Ratna Awards have earned national recognition over the years for promoting transparency, accountability, and excellence in parliamentary functioning by honouring lawmakers who demonstrate consistent commitment to democratic responsibilities.
