Miracle Survivor Walks Away from Air India Plane Crash in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, India – June 12, 2025: A British national, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, miraculously survived a devastating Air India plane crash near Ahmedabad airport. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, flight AI-171, crashed shortly after takeoff, killing 251 of the 252 passengers onboard. Ramesh, seated in 11A, escaped the wreckage with minor injuries and walked away unaided before collapsing in hospital.
The crash occurred 30 seconds after takeoff. A loud boom preceded the plane’s nosedive, Ramesh recalled. He leapt from an emergency exit, defying a 0.000001% survival chance. “When I woke up, I saw bodies around me,” he told Hindustan Times. He sustained injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet.
Ramesh, originally from Daman Diu and residing in Leicester, UK, was visiting family in India. He was traveling with his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, 45, whose status remains unknown. Ramesh is now under treatment at Civil Hospital, Asarwa, in Ahmedabad.
Police confirmed Ramesh as the sole survivor. Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik reported the find. Social media posts hailed Ramesh’s survival as a “one-in-a-million escape.” Prayers for his recovery poured in online.
The crash has left India in shock. Investigations into the cause are ongoing. Ramesh’s survival stands as a beacon of hope amid an unimaginable tragedy.
