Massive Devotees Gather at Delhi’s Jama Masjid for Eid Al Adha Morning Praye
Delhi, June 7, 2025 — Thousands of worshippers gathered at the iconic Jama Masjid in Delhi early today to offer the special morning Namaz on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar.
Eid Al Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. The festival is observed globally with prayers, feasts, and acts of charity.
At Delhi’s Jama Masjid, one of India’s largest and oldest mosques, devotees assembled in large numbers well before dawn to participate in the Eid prayers. Despite ongoing Covid-19 precautions, the turnout was substantial, reflecting the deep-rooted religious fervor in the city.
Security was heightened, with Delhi Police deploying personnel to manage the large crowds and maintain order. Barricades were set up around the mosque area, and traffic was regulated to ensure smooth access for worshippers. Volunteers and mosque officials played a crucial role in guiding devotees and encouraging social distancing measures.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Neeraj Kumar said, “We ensured comprehensive security arrangements to facilitate a smooth and peaceful Eid celebration. Cooperation from the public was commendable, and there were no reports of any untoward incidents.”
The Eid Namaz was led by the mosque’s Imam, Maulana Syed Ahmed Bukhari, who delivered a sermon emphasizing the values of sacrifice, compassion, and community solidarity. “Eid Al Adha teaches us the importance of selflessness and caring for those in need,” he said. “Let us come together in peace and harmony.”
Many worshippers also participated in the traditional Qurbani ritual, symbolizing devotion and charity. Local resident Farhan Khan shared, “This is a very special day for us. Coming to Jama Masjid for Eid prayers is a tradition in our family, and it brings us closer to our community.”
Community members distributed food and sweets to attendees and the less fortunate, embodying the spirit of generosity that defines Eid Al Adha.
The event proceeded peacefully, reinforcing Jama Masjid’s role as a center of faith and harmony in Delhi.
