Bengaluru, June 12, 2025 – Karnataka will conduct a new caste survey within 90 days, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced. The decision follows concerns over the 2015 caste census data. The Congress high command directed the state government to undertake the re-enumeration.
The earlier survey, conducted by the Kantharaj Commission, faced criticism for being outdated. Dominant communities, Vokkaligas and Lingayats, claimed undercounting. The new survey aims to address these issues transparently.
Deputy CM DK Shivakumar emphasized inclusivity. The survey will allow online submissions, including for those outside Karnataka. It will focus on socio-economic and educational status.
The cabinet will finalize the timeline soon. The process is expected to be comprehensive, using modern technology. This move aligns with similar caste surveys in Bihar and Telangana.
