Israel and Iran Escalate Conflict with Airstrikes and Missile Attacks
June 14, 2025 – Tensions between Israel and Iran have surged into open warfare. Israel launched “Operation Rising Lion,” targeting Iran’s nuclear and military sites. The Israeli Air Force struck Tehran and other key locations early Friday. Iran’s state media reported over 70 deaths, including top military commanders and nuclear scientists.
Iran retaliated with ballistic missile strikes on Israel. At least three people were killed in Israel, with dozens injured. Air raid sirens blared across Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Iran’s air defenses claimed to have shot down two Israeli warplanes.
Israel declared a nationwide state of emergency. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the strikes “very successful.” He vowed to continue targeting Iran’s nuclear program. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned of a “bitter and painful” response.
U.S. President Donald Trump urged Iran to halt its nuclear ambitions. He warned of further Israeli strikes if no deal is reached. The U.S. provided intelligence support but no military involvement.
The conflict has raised fears of a broader regional war. Oil prices surged 6% amid the escalating crisis. Iraq closed its airspace, and U.S. diplomats were withdrawn from the region.
India expressed concern and called for peace. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged both sides to avoid further escalation. The international community remains on edge as the situation unfolds.
