A fresh First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and DNA Entertainment Networks in connection with the deadly stampede that occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during an IPL celebration event last week. The tragedy claimed the lives of 11 people and injured over 50 others.
The FIR, filed by the Cubbon Park Police under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code—including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and criminal negligence—accuses the three parties of failing to ensure adequate crowd control and safety measures during the high-profile event, which was attended by thousands of fans.
Legal Escalation and Political Fallout
The incident has sparked widespread public outrage, prompting Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to order the immediate suspension of Bengaluru’s Police Commissioner and to direct the arrest of executives linked to the organizing bodies. “This was a man-made tragedy that could have been prevented with proper coordination and responsibility,” Siddaramaiah said during a press briefing.
The Karnataka High Court has since granted interim relief from arrest to several KSCA office-bearers while allowing the investigation to proceed. Legal experts suggest that the court’s intervention is procedural and does not exonerate the parties involved.
Four individuals—including senior representatives from RCB and DNA Entertainment Networks—have been detained and questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
Accusations and Denials
Representatives from RCB and KSCA have described the FIR and arrests as a “witch hunt” and accused the state government of responding with politically motivated actions rather than relying on facts. In a joint statement, they claimed that all requisite permissions had been obtained and that local law enforcement failed to manage the crowd effectively.
However, preliminary police reports suggest that the event saw massive overcrowding, with no clear emergency exit plans, poor barricading, and minimal coordination with civic agencies.

Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have confirmed that CCTV footage, communication between organizers and police, and logistics plans submitted by the event managers are under forensic examination. The state government has also formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to determine accountability and recommend future safety protocols for public events.
A senior police official involved in the investigation said, “This is not just about punishing individuals, but about setting a precedent. Fan safety must never be compromised for commercial interests.”
