Palaniswami, the Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and AIADMK General Secretary, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on September 16, 2025, at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi. During the meeting, Palaniswami submitted a letter on behalf of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), requesting the conferment of the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, on freedom fighter Pasumppon Aiya U. Muthuramalingam Thevar.
